Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)
  • 14 ounces caramels (or caramel bits)
  • 5 ounces canned evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Spray a 9"x13" baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Gradually add flour, baking soda, and salt; mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips gently.
  7. Spread half of the dough into the prepared pan and bake for about 8-10 minutes until slightly set.
  8. Meanwhile, melt caramels with evaporated milk in the microwave; stir in peanut butter once melted.
  9. Pour caramel mixture over baked layer and top with spoonfuls of remaining dough.
  10. Bake for an additional 17-20 minutes until golden brown on top.
  11. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
