  • 4 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon heavy cream
  • â…“ cup pecan halves, very finely chopped, optional

Instructions

  1. Melt 1 cup unsalted butter over medium-low heat until browned. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups cake flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  3. Mix in the browned butter until fully incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together 1½ cups buttermilk, 2 large eggs, and 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients and fold in 1½ cups finely chopped pecans.
  5. Divide batter among prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
  6. For frosting, beat together 1½ cups softened unsalted butter, 6 oz cream cheese, ⅓ cup light brown sugar, 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract, and salt. Gradually add in 4½ cups powdered sugar and mix until fluffy.
