  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients by ensuring the butter is softened.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg, molasses, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients into wet mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes using cookie cutters.
  7. Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for approximately 10 minutes or until edges are firm. Allow cooling before decorating.
