  • 2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey or sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil (canola or vegetable)
  • 4 to 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and a pinch of honey/sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the remaining honey/sugar, salt, oil, and three cups of flour. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add more flour until dough pulls away from the bowl but remains slightly sticky.
  4. Knead for 4–5 minutes using a stand mixer or by hand until elastic.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover; let rise in a warm spot until doubled (about 1.5 hours).
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into two portions, shape into logs, and place in greased loaf pans.
  7. Cover and allow for a second rise (45 minutes to 1 hour).
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for about 30–33 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
