  • 1 loaf stale white bread (1518 oz)
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin
  • 5 large eggs
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • ½ cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk together milk, pumpkin, eggs, sugar, spice, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Cut the stale bread into cubes; place half in the baking dish and pour half of the custard over it.
  4. Repeat layering with remaining bread and custard.
  5. For the topping, mix flour, sugars, spice, pecans, and melted butter until crumbly; sprinkle on top of casserole.
  6. Refrigerate overnight or for at least 30 minutes before baking.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 60 minutes until set and golden.
