Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk (heated to 110°F)
  • 2 + 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 6 Tbsp butter (divided)
  • 4 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus additional for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, egg, melted butter (1 Tbsp), sugar, and salt. Mix briefly.
  2. Gradually add flour until dough is smooth but not sticky. Knead for about three minutes.
  3. Cover and let rise in a warm area for one hour.
  4. While the dough rises, prepare the filling by blending softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the filling evenly. Roll tightly and slice into eight pieces using dental floss.
  6. Place in a greased baking pan and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For frosting, beat together cream cheese, remaining butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Frost warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
