- 1/4 oz active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp OR 1 packet)
- 1/4 cup warm water (100° to 110°F)
- 1/2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 8 oz full fat sour cream
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
- 3 to 3 ½ c bread flour (all purpose can also be used!)
- â…“ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 3 c powdered sugar
- 3 Tbsp cream cheese (softened, or butter can also be used)
- 2–4 Tbsp milk
- 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- ÂĽ tsp vanilla extract
- Purple, green, and gold sprinkles to decorate
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing it with warm water and sugar; let it foam.
- Heat sour cream, butter, salt, and sugar until melted; cool to lukewarm.
- In a stand mixer, combine the sour cream mixture, yeast mix, egg, and half of the flour; mix briefly.
- Gradually add remaining flour while mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms.
- Knead until smooth and elastic; let rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size.
- Roll out dough into rectangles; spread softened butter followed by cinnamon-sugar filling.
- Roll up tightly, shape into a ring on a baking sheet, and let rise again.
- Bake at 350°F for 25-35 minutes until golden brown; cool before glazing.
- Mix powdered sugar with cream cheese (or butter) and milk for glaze; drizzle over cake and decorate with sprinkles.
