  • 6 cups powdered sugar

  • 2/3 cup seedless strawberry preserves
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients, then stir in hot coffee until smooth.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. For buttercream, beat softened butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and mix in strawberry preserves and vanilla.
  7. Frost cooled layers with strawberry buttercream and decorate with chocolate-covered strawberries.
